First day to my village and time for a long walk to the forest to the river and to the mountain pastures. The weather was good and the sun was shining and burning. That’s way late in the afternoon a summer rain began. As I was walking in an old road two big butterflies passed me. First time I saw specie like this in Lipinitsa and the last for this year because the next tree days there I never saw them again .but one of them is in my file and will live forever! Any idea about the ID?

Congrats for this excellent photo and the wonderfum observation. It is, I believe the Apollo (Parnassius apollo) a species very typical of montain habitats in Europe.

Hi Thodoris,
this butterfly is so pretty, I love the spots on the wings, never saw such a one.
A beautiful arrangement with the flower and the bug, I like it very much, thanks

Hi Thodoris!

You are lucky man! This is famous and extremally rare [in my country] Apollo. Great to see such beauty. There is another visitor on thistle flower - some kind of moth. Great post!

Very good Thodoris!
You captured a Papilionidae!
The specie is Parnassius apollo (Linnaeus, 1758), known as "Apollo" in english.
Very good on colours!
Very good DOF and details too!
5* and TFS!

Hi Thodoris,
you have pictured your favorite moth - a burnet, and the rare and majestic Apollo (Parnassius apollo) on one flower!
You are lucky! This butterfly is rare, very locally distributed in the mountains of Europe. I would not have expected one of these from as far south as Greece.
And they are hard to catch, most of the time either flying up a hill in the morning, or downhill in the evening, being rarely at rest. Great document!
Thank you, and best regards,
Peter

Hi
It's REALLY very good shot of Parnassius apollo - one of the most beautifull butterflies in Europe. I've seen it once in Poland - it was really great. Thanks

Chris
