On the foot of the majestic Temple of Poseidon at the cape Sounio, this tiny colorfull crocus attracted me.
This is the Crocus cartwrightianus or Wild Saffron Crocus, which can be found on rocky hillsides in Southern Greece, Cyclades and Crete, blooming in autumn. Its styles are sometimes gathered for saffron. It looks like the Saffron Crocus except for its smaller size. It is thought that Crocus sativus (Saffron Crocus, cultivated for saffron) is a selection of Crocus cartwrightianus.

I am a strange visitor in archeologic sites: I did not shot only the columns and temples but also the flowers, insects, turtles... which are abundant on the archeologic sites where they find some protection!

Hello Catherine
Lovely colours sharpness and detail here..and very interesting to me...I live near a town called saffron walden which was named after this flower I believe..and there is still a public house called the crocus.
Great work and great note.
Tfs and regards
Paul

Hi Catherine,

Very interesting indeed. Very good picture. Some of the brightest areas may be saturated, though.
