| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Iphiclides podalirius, the scarce swallowtail, is a butterfly found in gardens, fields and open woodlands. It is found in places with sloe thickets and particularly orchards. It is widespread throughout Europe with the exception of the northern parts. Its range extends northwards to Saxony and central Poland and eastwards across Asia Minor and Transcaucasia as far as the Arabian peninsula, India, and western China. The Scarce Swallowtail is getting rarer as due to loss of habitat and foodplant. It is protected by law in some European countries. It is considered Rare-Endangered in some provinces of Austria and of status Indeterminate throughout Europe.

Hello Nikos, this is a very unusual pov and against a clear blue sky, it is superb. You managed to capture a superb exposure even though it is backlit. The colours are stunning and I really like the composition, the beautiful flowers. The sight under the belly of the butterfly is superb too. I hope this beauty will not disappear, they are such wonderful creatures. Thank you!
Francine
Hi Niko
very nice and original picture!
This butterfly have lost it's tail probably because of an attack. The birds think that the tail is... the head! they attack but they miss!
