The Double-crested Cormorant (Phalacrocorax auritus)

The Amvrakikos gulf is the largest wetland system in Greece which is proctected area by Unesco, made up of lagoons, reed-beds, forests and salt-marshes. The Rodia wetland is situated in its North-Western part, and is the biggest single expanse of reeds in the Balkans, a place blessed by God and loved by birds, fish, and human beings.

In this landscape of rare beauty the largest population of aquatic birds in Greece (about 100,000) come to spend the winter, stop over, and reproduce (around 250 species), while it plays host to the third largest colony of wild Pelicans in Europe. The Wetland is very rich in fish and is the best place for eel-fishing in Greece.

Hello Philip
Wow - a double bonus. The cormorant is beautifully frozen in flight and the heron is frozen with whatever it was doing. I am surprised how good people on this site can take photos of flying birds. I will first practice on the slower critters and maybe when I learn more I can try something like this, but that will still take a long time. I would say the only bit of bad luck you had here was that the bird was right in front of the open patch of water. If that was also covered with the green surface than the bird would have stand out much better. I still remains a very good photo.
Greetings
AC

Nice inflight Philip..
Well composed & not too centered at all..plenty of space for the cormorant to fly into :)
The heron seems to be giving him the eye, adding good interest....and it's completely up to me...gee wiz, I have choices now ;}
How-bout I leave a big green smiley...I know we're not in it for the points anymore, but you can't escape the psychology of that big green smile ;-}}
Well done mf.
