[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hi folks,

Today evening I wanted to post something else, but due to I manage to shoot my first fungi photos of 2009, I hope You understand I wasn't able not to share it with You immediately... The specie on the pic is Phellinus pomaceus, a plant pathogen, infecting in most of the cases trees belonging to Rosaceae family: first and most of all plum and peech (Prunus sp.), sometimes apple (Malus), hawthorn (Crataegus), very sometimes other deciduous trees - and the literature also knows 2 cases when it was found on European fir (Abies alba). Although this specie's an unwanted organism, which slowly causes white caries, not a real danger source, because it doesn't cause the death of the tree, or at least very-very slowly. Parasite on living trees, saprobic on dead ones. Very common all over the world, in the whole Eurasian region, North and Central America, Australia + in New Zealand.

Photo: shot in my parents' week-end garden, on an old plum tree. Not really a spectacular specie, so I tried to make the pic more interesting by using "bird perspective", which I almost never use in fungi photography. So, the background You see is really the ground, and the tree from above. PP: shot with the compact camera, so my often repeated 'sharpening the fungus' and 'gaussian blur to the background' games were of course played, with a slight level correction.

As a workshop, I upload my 10-year-old son's collage, including his version about this bracket fungus + spring flowers also photographed today, except for the Galanthus shot a few days ago in a park in the city. All photos were done by him, and all Photoshop work was done by me on the image. I hope You like both pics.

Hi Laszlo! You are surely one the best on TN in the choice of different and unusual point of view. Hello Laszlo!

Great shot from Spiderman's POV :-) Fungus maybe common but I know this feeling - first spring photo. POV is great, details on fungus surface also looks excellent. Good exposure and white/green colours.

Hi Baratom Lazslo, congrats on your first fungi shot of this year. You are very lucky too. Last weekend i gone to mountainous areas to find and photograph some fungi but i could not success:( may be next weekend i can find.
You captured this perfectly as usual, with great DOF, excellent POV and great details.

Hi Laszlo,
yeah..I have seen a lot of this fungi affecting the plants here too. But whatever, they contribute something to our environment too.
Lovely bird's view, I feel as if Im hanging on the branch shhoting directly onto the face of the fungi. Wll composed I say as it gives the story of what it is all about.
