Mallard in sunset

Mallard was shot yesterday at lake Orfu.
I was trying out a Pentacon 500/5.6 lens there. The light was quite insufficient already, I had to set sensitivity to ISO800 and still the image came out a bit dark. Although the water had been OE if I could go up a step. 1/320 was the slowest speed I could hold even with the monopod anyway. Maybe I can go earlier and catch better lighting next time.

Applied a little crop for rotation correction but it's almost the full frame. Added some contrast and saturation, corrected cromatic aberrations.

The lens if very fine altogether knowing when it was produced, the only issue is it being very heavy but a good monopod takes care of that anyway. This was the first 500mm lens I used so I have nothing to compare to but quality is very good on my opinion.

Best regards,
Andor

Hi Andor,
the clarity and colour of the water here is very nice indeed, and the DOF seems perfect to me. Perhaps the Mallard is a little underexposed, even at ISO800 but i think this is due to difficult light conditions, as you say. I'd say the quality is good too..hope to see some more!

Hello Andor,
How are you and nice to see you again!
Lovely image with the golden light reflection on the water with a good clarity on the Mallard!
fine in dof with good sharpness, nice colour and details
take good care and sincere regards from NZ

Hi Andor,
Its like the duck is swimming in liquid gold. The light certainly created something wonderful. A bit of selective curves adjustment will bring out more color and detail in the duck. Maybe a slighly less centered composition would be better.

Niek

Hi Andor!

It's a pleasure to see you back! It's quite a long time ago we met for the last time. And I see that you are trying out a new lens which seems to be a little jewel! I like your picture very much even if it was taken under difficult light conditions. The dark shape of the Mallard contrasting with the soft evening reflecting light on the water surface is very well seen and managed. It looks like the animal is gliding over a lake made of silver and gold.

Kind regards

Markus
