Near The Virgin Forest - The End Complete

Hello,

My "Virgin Forest" series came to the end, with the 7th part. Honestly speaking I'm happy, because I (being exact my Photoshop, or my PC) suffered a lot with this image. Probably You say the horizon isn't straight - but if You see the lowlands area very far, You can realize it's not the horizon, but the mountains on the left turn to left! I checked out each panoramic images I've ever (in 2008 and 2009) done from this rock and from others in the area, tried to rotate them and realized it. If I'm not right, sorry...

Honestly speaking this rock, named "Pes-kő" (= "Cave Rock") is ca. an hour walking far from the Virgin Forest (to West), and "Bald Rock", where this photo was taken, is much closer (to East), but due to the strong return light, I never managed to photograph the wonderful panoramic view from Bald Rock in really useful quality. So I chose this image - at least the area and the view are almost the same. As a local plus, if You see the very far mountain on right, You have a look on the highest peak of Hungary, "Kékes" (in "Mátra" mountains), with an altitude of 1014 meters.

"Cave Rock" is on 857 meters above sea level (while Bald Rock is on 950), and its local name, "Pes-kő", originates from the ancient Hungarian word "pest", which means "cave". This word was taken from the ancient Bulgarian language and already extincted from the current Hungarian. You can only meet it in names like this. Of course there's a cave in the rock, where bones and tools from the prehistoric era were found. The place (both the cave and the mountain top) isn't visitable without the permission of Bükk National Park Directorate.

Photo: as mentioned, the strong return light doesn't help to do panoramic photos from the rocks of this area (each has look-out to South). If I remember well, I was supported by a little white cloud which has partly hidden the Sun for a few seconds. So, some of the exposures were done in sunny, while others in shadowy conditions. I used Ulead Cool 360 for exposure correction on the entire panoramic image.

Well, as said, my "In The Virgin Forest" series came to the end. Later I'll upload more pics from this area, but separately. If You'd like to see the whole series, voila:

Hello Laszlo,
I am very impressed by this photo because it shows that there are still stretches of pristine deciduous forest in Europe and one hope that it will not be exploited.
The panorama shows the extent well, though I understand the difficulty in aligning the horizon, made difficult by the curvature caused by the lens.

A very beatiful panorama from this high vantage point. The composition is also very good with just that bit of rock and schrub on the right. It is however a pitty that the horizon isn't straight. But in this case it's a small thing

Thank you for that picture of a mountain landscape.

I greatly appreciate the compostion of you photo. In the large version, we can appreciate so many details, the forest, the valleys, the mountains, the horizon.... And with a good sharpness all along from the photography; also an amazing depth of field.

The colors are perfect and the the contrast is not too much accentuated - in fact, relatively soft.

Great picture. I can compare your forest to the virgin forest that I know quite well in Africa and South America.

Another point : good idea your serie.
