THINGVELLIR

In Thingvellir, you can stand on a bluff and see the Mid-Atlantic ridge as it carves its way north and east into the island’s interior.

In 930 AD, while most of Europe was mired in feudalism and conflict, chieftains in Iceland gathered in a natural amphitheater to the north and west of Reykjavik and formed the world’s first parliament, the Althing. The meeting place was called Thingvellir (“parliament plains”), and over the next 300 years representatives journeyed here once a year to elect leaders, argue cases, and settle disputes - sometimes peacefully, sometimes not. Today, Thingvellir National Park remains the ultimate symbol of Iceland’s independence and unity, a landscape inseparable from the national soul.

The founders of the Althing could hardly have chosen a more appropriate place to meet. Thingvellir tells the story of Iceland’s land as much as it does its people. Nowhere in the country is there a landscape that better vocalizes the geologic history of Iceland.

Hello Ralf,
Amazing, very impressive landscape. I like this POV with a wide angle and variable colours. Also the sky looks very good here. I appreciate very much this historic note which copes well with the picture.
Best greetings,
Michal

Hi Ralf,

A stunning landscape shot, it feels really wild and illustrates your point precisley. It's also quite striking how similar it is to the north west of the UK.

Thanks for sharing,

Paul

Hi Ralf,
in your picture there are all the feelings for a rough, hard and extraordinary land. Every change of color signes the different souls of your Iceland so loved.
You created a wonderful dream.

Hi Ralf,
This photo got pointed out to me by Emma, and I am really glad she did. This is really a stunning vista. The diffirent lighting in this photo created something really beautiful. The sky with its warm and cool colors and the baren look of the landscape is very appealing. The wide angle show the huge empty space perfectly. That one mountain on the right is a real eye catcher.

Niek

Hi Ralf,
What an unbelievable photo! The wonderful colours create a magnificent magic feeling, but it actually depicts the energy of the place in a realistic manner for my opinion since it's no ordinary place ;) Thanks for sharing!
