| This is a wild hen in Iceland. The icelandic name is "rjúpa", the english name is Rock Ptarmigan. I heard a story once that explained why these birds have fethered legs and claws but unfortunatly I have forgotten it. If anyone remembers the story then please mail it to me. This is the male and I know that because of the red line above the eye. In the wintertime these birds turn white. |
