The Burren is an amazing place. It is a karst limestone region of approximately 300 sq km which lies in the north west corner of Co Clare, in Ireland. Like most of Ireland, the Burren was under a tropical ocean over 360 million years ago resulting in a layer of limestone.

Later tectonic movement raised a section of this ancient seabed into a great plateau which we now know as the Burren. The Ice Age ploughed through the region, widening the river valleys and depositing boulder clay.

The fame of the Burren is in its rock garden and its shoreline, limestone fissures, grasslands and hazel woods also yield an abundant and unique set of flora. BURREN PLANTS. Botanists explore the Burren finding Arctic, Alpine and Mediterranean plants growing together in Ireland's mild climate.

From May to September the colours of the landscape change as plants flower. For the more patient visitors glimpses of the wild butterflies, mammals and bird life add to this untouched habitat.

Hi Stephen,
Special POV so close to the ground, this gives a feeling of take off and fly, because the photo is very sharp until the horizon. Beautiful warm light on the plant. I'm trying to learn from the technical facts you give. The focal lenght is probably what makes the photo special. you are very talented!

Hello Stephen,

It is a super picture you are offering us today! I like the little violet flowers with the immense blue sky at bg! The burren seems to have no end! The big rock bring another artistic element in the picture! Excellent pov and composition! Great picture and TFS.

As a backpacker I've always felt something compelling about the flowers that manage to survive in these stark and harsh environments. I'm not sure if that's what you had in mind when you shot it, but that feeling comes to me looking at it... Something about the flash of bright color against the grey hard rock and the wispy clouds in the sky (the shot souldn't nearly work as well with puffy clouds, nor, I think, even with a clear blue sky). Well done!
Cheers,
Mike

Flowers growing between rocks look so charming, Stephen.

The Burren, such a wonderful and distinctive place. I really like the sky in this picture. It stands out so very well and really adds that something to the rest of the picture. so stark and harsh, it matches the environment so well.
