[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The thing about the Burren is that it is not obvious. It's not like the Taj Mahal or the Grand Canyon or Ayer's Rock. You could be standing in the middle of it and asking the locals where it is. This has happened. Let's face it, grey stone, green fields and cows is basically what Ireland is to some people, and if you don't do your homework, you too could cycle or drive the length and breadth of the Burren and feel like you never really saw it.

The Burren is a karst limestone region of approximately 300 sq km which lies in the north west corner of Co Clare, in Ireland. Like most of Ireland, the Burren was under a tropical ocean over 360 million years ago resulting in a layer of limestone.

Later tectonic movement raised a section of this ancient seabed into a great plateau which we now know as the Burren. The Ice Age ploughed through the region, widening the river valleys and depositing boulder clay.

This area has some of the finest archaeological megalithic tombs in Ireland. There are relics of human habitation dating back almost 6000 years and the most famous is the vortal tomb, or portal dolman, at Poulnabrone.

When I saw the title I was especting the dolman with the horizontal rock on top that you've shot before. B ut then my eye got caught in the sky. I'm not sure what the color looked like but that sky is incredibly engaging in B&W. I could just keep staring off into the sky.

A creative effort. I like the mood and the sky. Great use of B&W here. The only part I'm not sure about is how the rock formation seems to be 'glowing'. It gives a slightly over processed feeling. Just my opinion. But others a great shot and composition.

This is a wonderful subject for a B & W shot, Stephen. You do find such interesting subjects! On my monitor it looks as if it could use just a touch more value differentiation in the mid to light tones...so that the great stone looks a little more three dimensional???? It also looks a tad soft to me but knowing you I assume all was intentional! (just a very humble opinion on the master's work )
