Puffin, Skellig Ireland

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
A couple of weeks ago we were down in Kerry and took a trip out to the island and UNESCO World Heritage Site of Skellig Michael . There are a great number of Puffins (Fratercula arctica) there that show very little fear of people.
The light wasn't great during the 2 hours we had on the island, but this bird was conveniently sitting in a patch of flowers which looked quite nice against the dark background.
I am surprised that thsshot came out so sharp as i used too slow a shutter speed (1/125sec) for the 200mm focal length. I guess I got lucky. |

Thanks for showing this magnificent photo. Beautiful composition with a calm BG and the plant that gives a feeling of being close.
As our son is working in Dublin at the moment we have thought about trying to go there quite soon. Do you know how long the Puffins stays on Skellig in the autumn?
I have also read about Puffins on the Great Saltee Island. Do you know anything about how the photo opportunities are there and if it is possible take a boat to them in september?
Best regards/Bengt
Hello Hauke,
The details are very sharp.
And, you are right about the flowers which are good for contrast with the black b/g.
A very nicely composed and presented shot.
My compliments.
Kind regards,
Bev :-)
