Again taken in Oughaval Wood, a 150 hectare state-owned woodland a kilometre South of Stradbally. In the middle of the woodland floor I spotted this lone mushroom, the only one I saw that afternoon.
I know little about fungi, but from a small reference book it looks similar to a Porcelain Fungus (Oudemansiella mucida), but I might be completely wrong about that - perhaps somebody might be able to help? The book mentioned that it grows on beech trees, and although this was on the ground, it was surrounded by beech trees and so possibly growing on a dead branch out of view.
I've no idea what the insect is, but it seemed to be quite interested in what may have been its lunch! |
