Pyrrhosoma nymphula is a damselfly (suborder Zygoptera) rather than a true dragonfly (suborder Anisoptera). As is typical of suborder Zygoptera, the insect is slender, its fore- and hind-wings are similar in size and shape, and when the insect is at rest, the wings are held back aligned along the abdomen.
Widespread and common. Adult flight period extends from late April to August. The only red species of damselfly in Ireland. Pyrrhosoma nymphula is the earliest Odonata species on the wing, appearing in warm Springs in late April. It is found in most habitats except for the most exposed sites. It has a preference for small acidic pools and is able to persist on many very dry sites that have become unsuitable for other Odonata. It is also quick to colonise newly created ponds.
The only other red damselfly in the British Isles is the Small Red Damselfly Ceriagrion tenellum, however this species does not occur in Ireland.

Great colors Catalin.
Although normally people show both damselflies in the frame when they are in the so called love wheel position, you did'nt because they are out of that position and I like it this way.
Wonderful details with the tail end just behind the head.
