Just out today to try out my new 300mm lens and this guy was good enough to pose. These Herons are actually quite common around Ireland.

Excellent shot! I love the clear details on the heron, and the background almost blends in with the bird (I've noticed they can hide in plain sight!). I love the detail of the eye, the composition, and the texture of the feathers.

Hi Paul,

I really like the image - I do like looking at images of Herons, and good work with a new lens. You have captured a good sharp image, with excellent details, colours and light. Good pov and the birds stands out quite well against the softening background. I have posted a version to workshop as I wanted to see what it would like slightly stronger colours and contrast. Not vastly different, but welcome your thoughts.

I've just upgraded to the 40D. How do you find it?

maybe you shoul'd zoom less and let a little bit more space
