Nome scientifico: Hogna radiata (Latreille, 1817)
Nome comune: falsa tarantola, ragno lupo.
Note alla nomenclatura: precedentemente descritta come Lycosa radiata.

Distribuzione: corotipo Turanico-Europeo-Mediterraneo. In Italia è comune pressoché ovunque.

Abitudini: ragno molto attivo dalle abitudini crepuscolari. E' da considerare un ragno errante, sebbene le femmine abbiano una tana come stabile dimora. La caccia avviene a vista, grazie alla presenza di grandi occhi mediani posteriori, o percependo le vibrazioni sul terreno provocate dalle prede grazie a peli sensori (tricobotri). Predilige artropodi notturni come grilli, altri ortotteri e ragni.

Habitat: luoghi secchi, prevalentemente rocciosi. La tana si trova in genere sotto pietre o in dimore abbandonate da altri animali che conservano un tasso di umidità più elevato rispetto all’ambiente esterno.

Aggressività: scarsa. H. radiata preferisce sempre la fuga ma, se messo alle strette, può dimostrarsi aggressivo. Il morso è discretamente doloroso. In particolare, le femmine con ovisacco vanno maneggiate con estrema cautela

Hi Ivan,
amazing pic!! a bit frightening! I think that the front legs are a bit out of focus. I like how the small feather (or whatever it is) makes a comparison with the spider, just to see how big it is.

If it is a Hogna than it is a local species or subspecies, as radiata has a more plain (eg not molttled) and brownish complexion. TFS
