Euchloe ausonia (Hübner 1804)

Common Name. Eastern Dappled White

Wingspan. 40.0-45.0 mm.

Taxonomics notes.
The taxonomy of this and two following species: E. simplonia and E. crameri, which are all very similar to each other, is not yet studied in a satisfactory way. This butterfly is inseparable from the Western Dappled White, Euchloe crameri, except by internal examination or genetic study. The best way of separation is geographical.

Distribution.
E. ausonia flies in peninsular Italy and from NE Italy east and south eastwards to Romania and Greece, E. crameri flies in NW Italy, S France and Spain.

Biology.
It is a common butterfly being encountered in open places hot, dry or damp on many soils. It flies throughout all the warmer months of the year. Foodplants: I> Sinapis, Isatis, Biscutella, etc.



Descrizione
Fa parte di un insieme di specie alquanto simili, separate, non senza qualche dissenso tra gli specialisti, in base alla morfologia dei bruchi. Ricorda molto una edusa, ma se ne distingue per ali posteriori più arrotondate e per il margine costale contrassegnato da striature trasversali nerastre. Anche l'evidente macchia discale sulle ali anteriori appare più stretta ed angolata. Inferiormente, le ali posteriori mostrano una colorazione verde con grosse macchie bianche.

Biologia
Gli adulti compaiono nella tarda primavera e danno luogo ad una sola generazione estiva. I bruchi ricordano quelli dell'edusa, ma con colorazione meno contrastata e col corpo percorso dorsalmente da una linea verde-grigiastra. Piante nutrici sono varie Crucifere (gen. Biscutella, Sinapis ecc.).

Distribuzione ed ecologia
È diffusa in tutta l'Europa meridionale, in Nordafrica e Vicino Oriente. In Italia è presente ovunque, salvo che nelle regioni nordorientali, dalla pianura ad oltre i 2000 m. Nel territorio è poco comune ed è stata riscontrata sui declivi collinari dell'interno.

bella cattura primaverile di Anthocharis cardamines con eccellente definizione e con un POV impegnativo che permette di apprezzare entrambe le pagine delle ali, ottimo utilizzo della luce e splendide le tonalità dei colori della farfalla e dei fiorellini esaltate da uno stupendo sfondo.

Hi Livio.
What an attractive and unusual picture of a nice butterfly. Lights and shadows are very impressive as well as POV. Details and sharpness of the head, body and left wing of the butterfly and tiny flowers are ultimate. I also like wonderful colours of the shot and blurriness of the BG. I usually applied smaller aperture value with this lens to get wider DOF. However, it is matter of taste. I love wide DOF a lot. My best wishes and TFS.

Ciao Livio,questi POV dal basso e in controluce ritengo siano il modo piu' spettacolare per fotografare le farfalle,anche se poi si capisce poco dell'effettiva colorazione e forma.Infatti hai mandato un po' in confusione i nostri detective,l'avrei anche io classificata come ha fatto Maurizio...comunque complimenti per lo scatto bellissimo,buona giornata,Luciano

Bonjour Livio !
J'aime beaucoup cette image pour sa belle lumière, pour le POV très original, de côté, pour les couleurs lumineuses, pour l'arrière-plan si joliment flou, mais aussi et surtout pour la profondeur de champ très courte, ne laissant que la tête et une petite partie de l'aile en focus. Le résultat est très réussi. Félicitations !
