| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
| This relatively rare insect cought my attention when hiking above Lake Garda near Limone. They were plenty of them in the air, but only in one particular location. Seemed like a mating place. A few of the animals were on the ground and that's how I could take the photograph. I later identified it, via web search, to be a libelloides coccajus, also known as ascalaphus libelluloides. The German name is "Libellen-Schmetterlingshaft", in Italian it's an "ascalafo", if I am not mistaken. The photograph does not pretend to be anything perfect; it's the animal that I want to present. |
