A Colias taken today,these are the colors of automn too.

Colias crocea

A regular migrant to the Uk from Europe, and although seen in most years it is well known for occasional "mass" migrations, sometimes called "Clouded Yellow years". Usually seen from March to October. Found in fields, meadows and grasslands over much of North Africa and Southern Europe to the Middle East, occasionally reaching the Scandinavian region when migrating. Feeds on leguminous plants, including the Clovers (Trifolium), Lucerne (Medicago sativa) both found in Brickfields Park, and occasionally, Common Bird's-foot-trefoil (Lotus corniculatus). Breeds in the Uk but does not overwinter. The caterpillar is bright green and hairy with a broad pale yellow / white stripe along its upper side. Capable of two broods per year usually in June and August.

With a wingspan of 50-65mm (2-2.5in), when settled it always has it's wings closed so the greenish yellow undersides with central silver spot outlined in red are the usual view of this butterfly, however the wing upper sides are an orange-yellow with broad dark brown borders, in the female ♀ these borders contain yellow or pale white spots. A small proportion of females are pale yellow and can be confused with the rarer Pale (C. hyale) and Berger's Clouded Yellows (C. alfacariensis). Females are larger than the males ♂, both having a dark brown spot to the upper forewing whilst on the upper hind wing the females have the same central silver spot outlined in red as the underside which is absent in the male.

Lepidottero di media grandezza dalla livrea giallo-arancio con larghe fasce marginali nel cui interno, ma solo nelle femmine, sono comprese macchie gialle. Le parti inferiori sono di colore giallo-citrino con una coppia di punti bianchi contornati di rossiccio sulle ali posteriori. Queste ultime presentano, inoltre, una serie di punti scuri nella regione postdiscale. Non di rado si osservano femmine dalla colorazione bianco-verdastra ascritte alla forma "helice", fissata geneticamente.

Biologia
Sverna come bruco nascosto tra anfratti e sotto le pietre. In primavera avviene la metamorfosi in crisalidi succinte provviste di un appuntito processo cefalico. A partire da maggio e fino all'autunno, si susseguono varie generazioni. Piante nutrici sono diverse Leguminose e soprattutto le vecce, sulle quali vengono deposte uova rosso-arancio.

Distribuzione ed ecologia
Diffusa in Europa centro-meridionale, Nordafrica e Asia minore. Ovunque in Italia, dalla pianura ai 2400 m. Specie tra le più comuni nel territorio, ove si riscontra con frequenza nelle campagne coltivate e al limitare dei boschi

Marvelous macro capture of the beautiful Pale Clouded Yellow butterfly with superb details! Great contrast between the colors of the butterfly and the purple flower. The blurry BG enhances the beauty of the shot. The sharpness and POV are perfect.

Hi Luciano. It still looks like summer with you. We have had a few days good weather . This is a fine side view of this Colias crocea butterfly. Taken with fine detai land bright colours. I like the way the light plays on the wings. well taken TFS.

Ciao Luciano. Non so se sono più belle le trasparenze sulle ali o lo sfondo che sembra una cascata di luce. Un livello di nitidezza e dettagalio credo irragiungibili. Di sicuro una delle tue migliori di quest'anno.

A en juger par la qualité de cette photo, je ne me fais pas de...souci (c'est le nom qu'on donne en France à ce papillon) On peut vraiment admirer la bête en détail, c'est un beau travail.

Bonsoir Luciano,
De retour du Valais je découvre cette magnifique image de Colias, une petite merveille prise à contre-jour. Cela doit être une sorte d'adieu des papillons,et en plus tu as pu capter un spécimen en parfait état. Le froid arrive, il est déjà bien installé chez nous..il fait 5°.
Bravo aussi pour la composition exceptionnelle et la gestion parfaite de la lumière.

un controluce quasi perfetto, hai gestito eccellentemente il contrasto di luce e mi piace la scelta di aver saturato molto i colori piuttosto di avere situazioni di alte luci con colori "slavati", straordinaria nitidezza in una composizione di grandissimo impatto visivo con uno sfondo spettacolare macchiato (purtroppo) dai riflessi del diaframma (non disturbano più di tanto), che forse rappresentano una piccola civetteria?
