Latreille, 1802

The Chrysomelinae are a subfamily of leaf beetles (Chrysomelidae). There are some 2000 species, found worldwide. The most well-known member is the notorious Colorado potato beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata).Beetles in the family Chrysomelidae are commonly known as leaf beetles. This is a family of over 35,000 species in more than 2,500 genera, one of the largest and most commonly-encountered of all beetle families.
Leaf beetles are partially recognizable by their tarsal formula, which appears to be 4-4-4, but is actually 5-5-5.They are distinguished with difficulty from long-horned beetles (family Cerambycidae) by having the antennae NOT arising from frontal tubercles. Adult and larval leaf beetles feed on all sorts of plant tissue. Many are economically important pests of agriculture, for example the Colorado potato beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata), the asparagus beetle (Crioceris asparagi), the cereal leaf beetle (Oulema melanopus), and various flea beetles.

Hi my beloved friend,
A perfect macro capture of a minute chrysomelid on a daisy with great details. TFS!
Gteetings from TRNC,
Bayram

The notations, the focus clearly on the insect and the superb colour combination's make this a stand out image Luciano! You are hopefully also enjoying doing this?! I can tell you are because if you were not then these would have come out much different. Fine image and quite worthy.

Ciao Luciano,
superb picture of this reflecting small beetle. Several times, I shot larger series of this species,
often in direct sunlight. Really a difficult task. So, congratulations for the result!
Best wishes, Peter

Hi Luciano,

How nice you have rendered the colors of this tiny beatel! It is not easy to get the right light for rendering well the colors and avoid reflections. You did it well. DOF is well adapted to the subject keeping the insect in focus.

Thank you for sharing,
Cristian

I was out on a short holiday to Goa last week and could not get back to your work, Luciano.
This little Leaf Beetle is so very colourful. You have shot it from a good point of view to highlight the colour and other details.
The daisy-like flower makes a fine BG for this capture.
Thanks and regards.

Bonjour Luciano,

Très belle présentation de ce petit coléoptère. Excellente exposition. Très bonne netteté. Superbes couleurs.
Mariki
