Large Skipper, Ochlodes venatus
Thanks to Ivan for correcting my overlooking of the hooked antennae!! I was too interested in the colour of them when thinking this was Thymelicus. For a Large Skipper, this one was actually fairly small, too with hardly any discernible underside maculation.
This picture was taken in bright sunlight, hand held. It has been cropped, resized and selectively sharpened for TN. |

Hello Alan,
Though this is a rather worn specimen it is a sharp macro of this Skipper.
As the antennae have hooked tips I don't think this is a Thymelicus species at all, rather this is a worn specimen of a Large Skipper. Both the Essex and Small skippers don't have hooked tips to the antennae.
It is a fine macro though,
Thanks and kind regards,
Ivan
Hello Alan,
Nice shot under the bright sunlight. Lovely macro picture of this skipper to enjoy. Perfect exposure and very nice off background.
Thanks and regards,
JC
Hi Alan
Fine macro of this skipper. I always like skipper shots, they are so hard to get here, too fast and very short perching times. Good sharpness and composition.
