Di questa farfalla si possono osservare due ben distinte razze geografiche: un’area settentrionale molto estesa in cui il dorso delle ali è bruno scuro con numerose macchie giallo pallido, ovviamente con gli ocelli sopra descritti; un’area meridionale, a Sud di una linea ideale che va dalla Bretagna all’Italia settentrionale, in cui il colore giallo pallido è sostituito da un arancione carico, per cui l’Egeria viene ad avere un aspetto molto simile alla Megera (Pararge megera)

Sottospecie settentrionale: Pararge aegeria tircis.
Sottospecie meridionale: Pararge aegeria aegeria.


La fotografia
E’ stata scattata con il 300 mm. con lettura spot dell’esposizione e regolazione manuale del tempo e del diaframma, nei pressi di S. Teodoro (OT), una zona ricca di lagune e stagni, con un corso d’acqua che scende dal Monte Nieddu. Queste farfalle si trovano in ambienti ombreggiati spesso costituiti solo da alcuni alberi e/o cespugli.
Quando avevo presentato l’immagine della femmina di Pararge aegeria non avevo precisato che si trattava della sottospecie meridionale aegeria aegeria, come ha osservato giustamente Ivan (Argus).
In questo caso si tratta di un maschio della stessa sottospecie e si vede bene la differenza con la femmina dalle vistose macchie androconiali.
Anche in questo caso una delle due ali è leggermente fuori fuoco, poiché non sono riuscito ad effettuare una ripresa delle stesse perfettamente parallela rispetto all’angolazione che avevano.

Hi Maurizio,

I'm sure you have enough beautiful butterflies to show us all winter long. The touch of summer on such a cold day is much appreciated. This Speckled Wood is wonderful with beautiful colors and sharp details. I love the vertical composition.

Another tack sharp image of a beautiful butterfly.
The light is used to good effect here and the colours are super.So many different shades and tones of orange .
Well composed in the frame.

In August but I suspect they are still there eh? Super colourings and a welcome sight for this man today (me) who was stuck in ice driveway for 10 minutes..I almost had to chain up...no butterflies here...so I can appreciate the time!

This is a superb open-wing, almost full frame capture of P. aegeria aegeria taken with excellent sharpness, colours and contrasting OOF natural BG from a great dorsal POV.
A fine illustration of the nominate subspecies and thanks for sharing it.

Bonjour Maurizio,
Très belle vue plongeante sur ce magnifique papillon dans sa forme méridionale. Ici, on voit déjà la forme septentrionale de cette espèce.
Les couleurs des ailes de ce mâle sont de grande beauté, couleurs que tu as rendues de manière très naturelle. Le manque de netteté sur une aile n'est pratiquement pas visible et ne nuit aucunement à ton image. J'aime beaucoup aussi comme tu as réussi à repousser l'arrière-plan, donnant presqu'une impression de 3D.
