Closeup of a Stromboli explosion. There are approximately 8 vents in the crater and they blow on average every 5 minutes. When I was up there I lucked out when two vents erupted at the same time with a bang.

Wow, very cool. Volcanoes are a subject i've always wanted to phtograph but have yet to get the chance. I like the spouting, fountain-like appearance of this one. Did you get a chance to take some with a longer exposure to blur the embers as they rose and fell? I'd be curious to see how they compare.
