[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is another capture from my holidays in the southern Alps.
The species shown here is
- Colias phicomone
- family: Pieridae

English: Mountain Clouded Yellow
German: Grünlicher Heufalter
French: Le Candide

As is true for all species of the genus Colias, also C. phicomone is a strong and fast flyer. In addition it is rather shy and always very busy when visiting flowers. In the late afternoon, however, when the sun is already low, specimens settle in the vegetation and it is possible to come closer.

Species Information
Colias phicomone is restricted to a few mountain areas in Europe: the Alps, the Pyrenees and the Asturian Mountains in Spain. Usually it is found at elevations up from 1800 m and higher.
Larval foodplant: Hippocrepis comosa and Vicia species.

Locality
North Italien Alps, Martell-Valley, near Lake Zufritt, 1800 m.

Conditions
- bright natural light (ISO 400)
- handheld

Hello Peter. You were able to get some beautiful butterfly on your hoiday. This one is so colourful. ,yellow ,green , Pink, blue. You have sharp focusing and fine detail. The soft white of the wild dandeline matches the outside edge of the butterfly. a nice POV against the plain BG. with interesting notes. well done TFS.

Hi Peter,
I'm impressed by this picture! They are so tinny and not easy to photograph and you have caught amazing details in excellent exposure, composition and DOF. We can see every single details, variations in colors tones and this is wonderful!

Hello Peter,
What an outstanding close capture of this beautiful butterfly! Razor sharp details - it's almost as if you'd drawn the lines around it with a pink pen!! I like its pose on the bending Dandelion seed too. Amazing colours and a very fine composition.
FS and best wishes, ulla

Very good close up, Peter. Technically well done!
The perch is sharp as well and the highlights aren't blown.

Hello Peter!

Fantastic specie! Looking at thumbnail I though this is very common specie. But it has very strange pink colours around wings and other pink accents! Details are great, same as sharpness. Perfect BG and composition. One question - what is this steel 'needle'?

Hi Peter,

What a BEAUTY
perfect POV, sharpness, colors and details

TFS Thijs

Very nice and sharp close-up of this lovely butterfly. TFS.

crystal clear picture with superb details, this picture can be used to study anatomy of this specie :-). I liked the diffused BG and the colors.Little more space front of the butterfly would have created wonders.

Lieber peter,
