The picture shows a male of the grasshopper
- Stauroderus scalaris
- family: Acrididae
- subfamily: Gomphocerinae
German: Gebirgsgrashüpfer
French: Criquet jacasseur

Species information
The species has an Euro-Siberian distribution. It occurs between about 200 and 2500 m, but prefers the montane and sualpine region.
S. sclaris is most abundant in August but can be found from June to October.
Length of the male: 17 - 21 mm.
Length of the female: 21 - 28 mm.

Location
North-Italian Alps, Rosim-Valley (tributary of the Martell-Valley), about 2050 m

Conditions
- bright natural light
- no wind
- handheld

Parameters
- small aperture (f/18) resulted in appropriate depth of field
- shutter speed of 1/160 sec was more than sufficient to achieve a sharp picture (no wind)
- ISO 400 allowed for the favourable parameter settings

Lieber Peter,
Mit diesem schönen Heuschrecken-Bild hast Du mir auch zur Bestimmung einer Art, die auch in meinem Garten wohnt, geholfen. Doppelten Dank also, auch für das feine, in den Grüntonen gehaltenen Bild. Der Gebirgsgrashüpfer scheint auch bei den TN-Mitgliedern gut anzukommen. Das freut mich natürlich sehr.
