[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is a small wheevil (family: Curculionidae) which I found resting on a rock in the upper Martell-Valley at about 2600m. Its body length is about 12 mm. Up to now, I failed to identify it on the species level. But it probably belongs to the species rich genus Otiorhynchus which includes about 170 species only in middle Europe.

On this windy day, it was difficult to take pictures of butterflies. So, this beetle was a suitable object. Light was rather comfortable and so I tried a close close-up of the specimen.

Location: Open alpine steep and flower-rich meadows facing the famous Monte Cevedale (3769 m) with its decreasing but still large and impressive ice masses.

Conditions
- natural bright light
- windy
- ISO 400
- handheld

Hello Peter !
I have seen a weevil for the fist time this summer, a brown and green/yellow one, but I didn't manage to get such a good shot as yours. There are so many amazing details on your picture, and I also like the composition, the POV and the light gray blurred BG - the insect stands up nicely even if it is grey on grey. Very well done !
Valerie.

Hi Peter, superb macro of lovely bug with fantastic details, great DOF and splendid sharpness, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hi Peter

Well at least you have references that allow you to to get to species level. Apart from the common ones here, it's hopeless.
Great macro shot with excellent sharpness and details.

Chris

Hello Peter, WoW what a funny looking insect with sharp focus. Nice picture. Ganesh

Hi Peter, A wonderfully sharp macro of this small weevil. The colours and setting are ideal. TFS. Murray.
PS Tks for ID of my macro today.
