Species information
Erebia pandrose shows a boro-alpine distribution pattern, meaning that it occurs at higher altitudes in the Alps and other mountain regions of respective elevations (Pyrenees, Rila, Rhodopen) as well as in northern colder parts of Europe. The species has a unique wing pattern within the genus Erebia which is shared only by another European species, Erebia sthennyo.

Location: North Italian Alps, Martell-Valley above Lake Zufritt, on the way to the Saelent-Joch, about 2500 m.

Hello Peter,
Fine open wing capture of a butterfly familiar to me from the Swedish mountains, E. pandrose. Though the left wing is a little crippled, it is a good specimen that you show with fine sharpness and it shows well against the lichen-covered BG rock.

Wonderful shot of this very beautiful Satyrinidae with such lovely colours and markings on its upper wings. The patterened BG makes the image stand out. Very impressive sharpness and the top POV works well here. Great composition.

Hi Peter, though there are some species of the genus in Turkey, unfortunately i could not see any Erebia till now. You are lucky that you encounterd with this beauty, and of course i can see a beautiful specimen thanks to you. Immpressive macro from nice pov in a fine composition.
