[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The following species is shown for the first time at TN!
It is really a challange to obtain a suitable picture of it. The species is a fast flyer, rarely settles on the ground or the scarce flowers present at its high alpine habitats. When resting on the ground, it is difficult to detect and is furthermore very shy. In most cases, even a slow approach remains unsuccessful.

The name of the species is
- Pontia callidice
- family: Pieridae

English: Peak White
German: Alpenweißling

Note: A picture of the relative Pontia edusa has been posted today by Silvio and is found close to this picture in the gallery.

Species information
- P. callidice is restricted to high mountain habitats. In Europe, it is found in the Pyrennees and the Alps between 1500 and 3400 m. It further occurs in Turkey, the Middle East, Monglia and China as well as in North America (subspecies: occidentalis).
- Wing span is about 42 mm.
- Foodplants of the caterpillars: Erysimum helveticum, Reseda glauca, Cardamine bellidifolia.

Location
North Italian Alps, upper Martell-Valley, on the slopes of the Konzenspitze, about 2600 m.

Conditions
- natural bright and difficult light
- ISO 200
- handheld

Hello Peter,
This is a beautiful butterfly, with great focus and fine details.
Very well done
Regards
Pierre

Hi Peter, congratulations for this first on TN, I never see before this specie, thanks, good macro with splendid light, fine details and wonderful sharpness, very well done, have a good Sunday, ciao Silvio

Hallo Peter,

Hi Peter,
A nice capture of this beautiful peak white butterfly. Very well composed with sharp details and a very good POV. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Wonderful.
I saw it only one times. Its about 3000 m. elevation and as you say its very fast. I can take two photos but they are not so good.
TFS.

Hello Peter, How did you notice. It seem to be hiding and in a difficult position. You shot it very well. Ganesh

Lieber Peter,
Anne

Hallo nochmals,

also Pontia callidice, unglaublich. Chapeau!

Beste Grüsse
Dieter
