An excellent macro of this colourful 12-spotted Chrysomelid beetle. As it is only less than 5 mm long the sharpness and details are superb and well shown from a dorsal POV against the yellow flower petal.

A very colourful beetle. Great macro for only 5mm long. Good sharpness and details. The only nit I have is that the there is a few blow-outs on the yellow flower :). But apart from that it is a fine shot.

Voilà un coléoptère bien coloré et qui s'est posé sur une fleur lumineuse. Un duo qu'on ne peut pas manquer! Et en plus un insecte rarement montré sur TN¨! Encore une fois bravo.

Ciao Silvio,
Your macro lens plus your savoir faire have created an incredible photo: this little animal appears to be covered with pollen. Taking in consideration the size of 4-5 mm, it is incredible to see all the other bits and pieces in focus.

I just wonder, why you took it SO FAST - thereby having a small depth of field and the bottom of the body out of focus.

Having said this - I still think - your photo is very instructive: the enormous eyes sticking out to the left and right, obviously to have a bigger horizon and seeing enemies.

The tiny hooks at the end of the legs are - I assume - to hold on to leaves, and not been blown away by a gust of wind. The contrast between the Beetle, the yellow petals is very well supported by the green background.

It is called in English: Twelve-spotted asparagus beetle - Very active, they fly and attack the first asparagus shoots - and I assume they are a pest... (They mate and lay during flowering.) Are there Asparagus growers in/around Spoleto?

I am pleased you posted this tiny Insect and hope, you yourself do not try to grow asparagus...
