Hello again all my TN-friens.

After almost 11 months I feel free to post again a shot here - I'm back - and sooo glad.
I missed you all so much.

Here is my must successful moment during this summer.
I saw my f i r s t mantis!!!
And look closer, it's not only one! It's a couple.

These are Mantis religiosa, referred to as the European mantis outside of Europe (and known simply as the praying mantis in Europe and elsewhere), is one of the most well-known and widespread species of the order Mantodea.
The European mantis is usually 2-3 inches, that's 75 mm, he is smaller, only about 50 mm in length, and has shades of bright green to tan.

They were very friendly because they were sitting on this beautiful red flower, a good contrast ;-)

So I hope you like my couple here, I also have closer shots of them and I would be happy if you also like to see them during the next days.

Thanks for looking and any words,
I'm happy to hear again from you!

Hi Sabine,
it's nice to see you again, I hope you are well.
It's a nice close-up picture you re-start with, the sharpness and details are great. And its nice to see a pair.
Lovely colours, but I don't mention the flash ;-) you know me.
Great work, my friend.

Hello Sabine,
I'm very glad that you are back on Track nature. I think you are one of the best macro photographers here on TN. And I see that you learned a lott of species names already during the last years.
Very good capture of this copula of Mantis religiosa.
They are in a romantic mood in this red environment.
TFS Harm

Hello Sabine,
Welcome back!
This is an excellent capture of a pair of mating Mantises. Taken from a great POV with fine sharpness and contrast against the red flower.
Interesting to see how much smaller the male is. When they separate he has to get away quickly if he is to avoid being eaten by his wife!
TFS this fine image,
Best wishes,
Ivan

Hello Sabine,
Nice to see you back! This is a splendid close-up of this green couple on the red 'carpet'! I like your POV and details are very sharp. Very interesting to see the difference in size of the male and female.
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

Hi Sabine.
Your absent was so long. However, return is cute. Surroundings for these mantises are very nice and image of the insects is great. I like wide DOF and perfect use of flash, as usual for your macro works. Well done and best wishes.

Hi Sabine,
it is great to see you back! You return with a wonderful shot of this two. The red petals as a setting are excellent...but we know what happens after to the poor male! Very well done, hope to see more from you.
Paul

Hi Sabine,
I almost thought that you left us for good. So I am very happy to see you post again. I hope all is well and that life is treating you good. I've certainly missed you these 11 months. Lucky you to capture not one but two mantises the first time. And how you have captured them the moment is great and the red color, color of love, suits the moment perfectly.
TFS,
Niek

Hello Sabine
Welcome after very long break. I am glad that you are posting again. Very nice unusual photo. First of all ineteresting green on red. Also great moment
I like it very much and I am waiting for more new photos in your gallery soon ;-)
Best wishes
Krzysztof

Ciao Sabie, well returned with us, splendid action shoot, I think that poor little male will eatend by female after maiting, great macro with beautiful light and colors, fantastic details and great sharpness, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hello Sabine,
Its nice to see you posting again.I hope you are well.
A splendid capture of these mantis.
They look much more like the South African species than the our native New Zealand ones, but their pink eyes and pinkish legs are very different.
These actually look quite large, but from your desription are obviously not.
I watched a video on You Tube the other day of a giant African Mantis actually catching and eating a poor mouse. The mantis was much much larger.
A wonderful shot!
TFS
Steve

Hallo Sabine,
Anne

Hi Sabine

Welcome back!!! It's really nice to see you here again after such a long break! I hope all is well with you and you managed to take a lot of cool shots in the mean time.

This is a fantastic capture!
I've seen quite a few mantids in my life but never once captured a breeding couple. Talk about spot-on timing here.
Their pose is well reproduced but your excellent side POV and the details are terrific thanks to the great DOF.
Very beautiful colors both on the subjects and the BG.

Bravo and TFS
Horia

PS: Did you watch them after the mating? What happened to he male? :)

Very good capture of this copula of Mantis religiosa.

Hello Sabine,

Good to have you back!
This is a great first post of your new season!
You have captured them with great detail in this most sensitive of moments! I like how the skin texture and the jagged leg details really stand out.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Sabine,

Hola Sabine.
Nice to see You here again, with this colorful super Macro. I have konown tha females cut the head of males after mating. Is it true?
TFS My friend.
Luis52.

Welcome back, Sabine!
All of us missed you sorely for nearly a year.
It is good that you are back again and posting.
I too saw a Praying Mantis for the first time, (so to speak, as I spent some time looking for it this month after having seen it in my younger days at my native place in the hills).
I will also post my first picture of it soon.
In the meanwhile, your capture of these two is excellent.
The two of them make a fine composition in their mating posture and look delightful against the red BG.
The image is also technically outstanding.
Thanks and keep posting!
Best regards.

This is the first picture I have seen of the two you posted and wow, Sabine, this is a comeback! The colours are stupefying, really, and the green mantis on this red flower make for an extraordinary composition of clours. The poor tiny male will finish as meat, but hé, that's life I guess... did you stay long enough to see what happens "after"?

Francine

p/s yes I do love cats, I live with three cats and one dog, the four of them amazingly fun and loving. The gracefulness of cats will always capture my heart!

Hello Sabine,
Very nice couple! It's very interesting to see their difference. Colours are amazing and sharpness too. Excellent shot! Best regards,
Catherine

WOW! That is a great shot!!! Funny that the males are so much smaller than females in the mantises and stick insects.
Wonderful colors - you're right...they were very nice to sit on the red flower for you. Great shot!
