[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I took this photo in my summer vacation in South Tyrol. This is the first picture I load up after a long time.
It shows a male of Erebia euryale sitting on a thistle. I took this photo at about 1600m.

Erebia euryale:
Class: Insects (Insecta)
Order: Butterflies Lepidoptera
Family: Nymphalidae
Genus: Erebia
Species: euryale

Erebia euryale occurs in Spain mainly in the Pyrenees, in France, the alps, the north of Greece and isolated in the Balkan Mountains. It is mainly found in heights of 1200 metres to 2000 metres. The appearance can diversify in different places.
There is one generation in one year. This generation flies from the end of July to August
Erebia euryale flies on places with a lot of grass and flowers; often in clearings of pinewoods but also above the tree limit.

I hope you like the picture, Fabian

Hello Fabian!
Erebia species are one of my favourite butterflies so this is a great pleasure to watch this picture.
According to technical aspects of picture a little better depth of field would be nice to keep entire body of this specimen in focus :)
Anyway, nice picture with an interesting note :)
Regards,
Radomir

Hello Fabian,
as you know, Erebia also (see cicindela) belong to my favourite butterflies. These sun-lovers are mostly very busy with short stop-overs on a flower. Thus, you managed well to capture this specimen of euryale. The large fore-wing eye spots are clearly visible. They are characterstic for the subspecies adyte. In other ssp. the eye spots miss the white centre or can be nearly completely absent.
Best wishes, Peter

Hi Fabian
You've made very nice picture. I really like the POV and colours. The flower is a little bit to sunny but butterfly is OK
