This is just incredible Sabine!
That Tamron lens on the Canon works brilliantly (in the hands of a skilled photographer obviously;)
Those details and colours in the eye are amazing.
A really excellent macro indeed.

Hello Sabine,

Lovely to see you still here and still posting your crisp and clear macro portraits! I have always been a little bit jealous of this Tamron lens you're using so well ;-) Glad to see it still working wonders!

As always - great details, colours and POV. The mantis looks strangely aware of being a model and thet makes the picture even more interesting.

Now that you mention it, it is a rather wrinkled and crooked neck.
That is very weird looking.

An even more in-depth close-up of this amazing mantis!
I quite missed them this year so i'm glad i'm seeing such nice shots here on TN.

The details of your shot are really something and the huge DOF you used helped you place everything here in great focus. I envy you a bit for having such a nice macro lens :)
The flash work also helped a lot in getting those terrific textures and colors from the eye just right.
The green tones again look great against the red rose petals and that makes this alien-looking insect more eye-pleasing :)

Ja das Tête à Tête mit der Gottesanbeterin ist etwas ganz Besonderes. Man kann nicht sagen, dass sie dich zärtlich ansieht! Erstaunliche Details sind auf deinem Bild zu sehen. So nahe scheint sie wirklch gar ein Alien zu sein. Schöne Komposiion und prächtiges Farbenspiel.

My picture of this 'Alien' I took recently in the hills is pathetic in comparison with this one, Sabine. And mind you, it was my first ever confrontation with this insect and still I botched it up :(!!
You have posted yet another wonderful portrait of this Mantis with superb details and colours on it.
Its green hues are so very rich.

Looks fantastic Sabine - the red with black BG works very well.
You've even picked up that bit of red in the mantids eye I see..
