Late Spider Orchid (Ophrys fuciflora, syn. O. holoserica)
Orchidaceae

The flowering stem is 15-55cm tall and bears two or three stem leaves and leaf-like bracts at the base of each flower. There are two to six (rarely eight) well-spaced, large flowers.
Flowering: May-June (July)
Habitat: Grows in closely-grazed grassland over well-drained chalky soil and cannot thrive in tall grass or herbage. It is often found on ancient earthworks and on the terracettes formed by sheep along the contours of steep chalk banks.

On the picture is one of many forms which occur in Europe.

Nice close up of this Ophrys fuciflora.
We supose to have it in Romania (south west part) too, but like other Ophrys species, it is so rare that I never see it and none of my friends who were looking for it did.

One of your best and one of most beautifull orchids. Flowers look like open jaws of some predator. Great colours, details and mood.
