| Celastrina argiolus: 23-30mm. A species which inhabits northern Africa, the whole of Europe and Palaearctic Asia, and in North America reaching south to New Mexico. Characteristic of shrubby lowlands localities and damp forests, often occurring plentifully in clearings rich in flowers, it likes to sit on the leaves of shrubs and trees. There are two or three generations in the year. The caterpillar lives on various shrubs, notably holly, ivy and buckthorn. The pupa hibernates. |
