[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Sooty copper - Lycaena tityrus .It's rather small butterfly - the wingspan is about 30 mm.Wing length 14-17 mm. There is a great difference between the male and the female. The males are very dark brown with lots of black, and some orange, spots on the upper side. Their under side is greyish yellow. The females are orange-brown on the upper wings of the upper side and dark brown on the lower wings of the upper side. The under side is yellow and orange, with big black spots. The main difference with the Small Copper is, that the Sooty Copper has no greyish underside of the lower wings, and has big black spots there, instead of very small ones.
