Pot Marigold or English Marigold (Calendula officinalis)
It's a plant in the Calendula genus. It was used in ancient Greek, Roman, Arabic and Indian cultures as a medicinal herb as well as a dye for fabrics, foods and cosmetics.

The leaves and petals of the Pot Marigold are edible, with the petals added to dishes as a garnish and in lieu of saffron. The leaves can be sweet but are more commonly bitter, and may be used as or as part of salad.

It is also used in homeopathic medicine (in a gel form) as a way to promote the healing of minor burns, scrapes and skin irritations.

Excellent capture!
I like so much the close approach and clear details got on this Calendula flower.
The focus is spot on, and the DOF work great to give the picture an artistic mood very enjoyable.
I like the vivid colour and smooth appearance of the opening petals.

Excellent close-up shot of this yet-to-open bud of a yellow flower, Carole.
The focus on the closed petals is very sharp and the colours are very rich.

Hello Carole,
Though I don't usually comment on garden flowers unless they grow wild, I must say this is a fine and unusual capture of the flower bud of a marigold, reminding one, like Edith says, of a bunch of bananas. Excellent DOF and composition against an OOF BG.
