Hi Caroline, great colour and excellent detail in this shot of yours. The hover fly itself is excellent. With the flowers it looks like you were fighting to hold the light, but it has worked out for you. The composition is great with the fly and flowers against this soft green background.

Thanks, John

Yes I certainly can smell it! Not only reminder from your picture, but also about 50 feet from my computer desk. Wonderful color and nice bee addage.

This is nice Caroline, I can smell the lavender. Tomorrow hope to be able to upload something similarly nice. But for now, hoverflies are hard to expose in bright sunlight, no?
Nic ecolours too.

Hello Caroline,
Fine sharp capture of a hoverfly: sharp and well composed on lavender flowers. It would be nice to have a bit more info. in your note.
I think this is a species called Sphaerophoria scripta.
TFS and best wishes, Ivan

Thanks for looking at my picture and writing your critique on it, Caroline.
I like this image of a Hoverfly perched on a lavender flower.
There are a few patches of over-exposure here and there, which you could take care of next time by selecting your camera settings according to light conditions.
Well done and TFs.
