Hello my Friends!
After some days of break with posting new pictures, and inspired by desert and desert-like pictures by James Parker (Jamesp), today I decided to show something from warmer regions :)

Here we are in Konopiste village (S Macedonia), a place witch is famouse because of very unique rocks - terrestrial pyramids. It is some 19:30, some 20-30 minutes before sunset (and that's why the quality of this photo is not the best...).

The pyramids cover an area of some 70 ha, and of course were built during instensive soil erosion. All pyramids - only some 20 exemplares (maximum high 20m) - are situated on the right bank of Bosava River, at 740 m above the sea level.

If you remember my earlier "rocky presentations" from this country (please see here and here), you can also remember that there is always some legend or story connected with such place. And also this time there is no exception :)

But this time the story is not about soldiers or lovers but about...milk, honey and children! :>

As the local people say, everyone who is incapable of having children, should to do one of the following things to have possitive results in reproduction process:

1. to scratch a piece of the rock column and then to put it into a glass of milk, add some honey and simply to drink it

or

2. because these columns are radiating some special positive energy... to make love in from of them!!! :>

Local people say that both cases help a lot (and numerous children met by me in the village can be a proof) but I really do not know which story is true or which brings better results... I did not try any of them, so I can not recommend you any of them... unfortunatelly ;>

very interesting and perfect pic,and very useful note, thanks for share,Luciano

I did so much enjoy James picture and information. My wife liked it so much she has taken out all of her very old textbooks from her college days..She saves everything even if it is 50 years old! WE have a remarkable collection on geology. And this picture was a good notion after seeing James picture. It certainly is an important chronicle and notation image to go along. All of these lessons are almost if not more valuable than a doctoral study. these are pictures which are so valuable one cannot say...

Hi Radomir,
Wonderful shot of this awesome rock formations. They really look huge and weird. The rugged landscape adds to the beauty. Very neat and sharp image with nice natural colours. Superb natural lighting and a precise DOF. Excellent POV to portray this scene and very nicely composed. Kudos.
TFS.

Bonjour,
Charmant paysage rehaussé par ces curieuses constructions.
Bonne journée.

Hi Radomir

I am glad you liked my shots and that they inspired you.

Great shot - I have seen some similar earth pillars on the slopes of Mt Rainier in Washington State, USA. The composition is great, with the pillars towering above.

Your note is very interesting - there are similar legends all over the world associated with phallic objects, or caves (female aspect).

Hi Radomir.
As usual your note is very interesting and shot is simply outstanding. I am impressed with your taste and skill at landscape shooting. (It is clear that insect pictures are so terrific.) Very pleasant inclined composition, rich warm colours and superb details. Bravo. Once more great job from you, dear friend.
Alexei.

Radomir,
This is a GREAT image.
Here, in Alberta, we call this phenomenon Hoodos.
A lot of detail is evident within this LOVELY register.
Warm regards from Mario.

Thanks for the warning : ) I suspect some folks will want to steer clear of these magical formations. : ) The photo quality looks pretty good to me. Sharpness is excellent.

hello radomir,
lovely capture, the stones look very interesting and reading the notes makes it even more interesting, liked the colours, composition and the pov,
well done,
tfs & regards

Dear Radomir,
Firstly, thanks for the kind comments on my Chickadee shot. :-)
Very interesting and wonderful looking landscape shot you present here. Is this a new passion to you? :-)
I can see the very nice details and wonderful POV here, with perfect exposure.
Lovely landscape shot!!
TFS and Best regards,
Kevin

Hi Radomir,
A nice place with a nice story. The capture is also good. In my belief that must be right. There should be some chemical in the rocks which when taken with milk and honey would be correcting the defect in the man or woman. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hola Radomir,
Interesantes leyendas en torno a estas curiosas formaciones producidas por la erosión, que no muestras con tanta claridad y magnífica composición, Saludos
José Ramón

Bonjour Radomir,
Mais, mais Radomir what a story! ;-)
Very interesting posting, indeed. These rocks really have a special shape and also a special color. They are a little bit reddish, might contain some iron. I like when nature creates myths and legends.
Thanks a lot and have a nice day
Anne

These are creations of nature formed in the process of erosion, as you have rightly pointed out in your note, Radomir.
The central pillar is essentially phallic and symbolically represents fertility and continuity of life through reprocreation. The shivalinga -- a phallic representation of the Hindu deity Shiva -- is worshipped in Hinduism for exactly the powers you speak of in your note.
You have shot the picture from an effective angle and the three diagonal layers of different colours make it a very good composition.
TFS and regards.
Ram

Hi Radomir, great composition with splendid rocks, excellent sharpness, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hi Radomir
That's a curious legend about the properties of these strange geological formations, no doubt. Something that I have always heard is about the truth of popular wisdom. Will it be true this time?? Well, I should prefer the first way to prove it! I am too shy for the other! ;)
Excellent and very interesting shot, I like it very much! Very good POV and a sharp and clear composition.
Thank you very much for sharing, dear friend.
Greetings

Hi Radomir!
Thank you for presenting us this wonderful place!
I think I've never been so south in Europe (or even the globe).
I love snow but it's nice to see such a place in a cold weather we have.
The story is very interesting too, and I guess women getting inspiration even by the shape and orientation of these rocks themselves is what can be behind :) But it's just a guess, let the women decide :)
I don't see the problem of quality, it's very good for a daylight shot.
Thanks for sharing!
Best Regards,
Andor
