[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Another shot from Macedonia. Radek (cicindela) recently posted two photos from this place. You can see those photos and read notes here and here. You can see Radek in my WS photo here.

Kuklica is situated only a few kilometres from the town of Kratovo. The figures have been created in the past fifty thousand years by natural erosion of the porous volcanic rocks.

These stone figures are the guardians of the legend called “the Wedding in Stone”. The legend says that a long time ago a young man from the village of Kuklica could not decide on whether he should marry the girl from the higher part of the village, or the girl from the lower part of the village, so he arranged to marry them both in the same day. When one of the maidens saw her husband to- be with another woman as his bride-to-be, she cursed everybody saying: “I pray to God to turn me into stone and that all of you turn into stone along with me!”And that is what happened: the newly-weds, along with all the wedding guests and the
musicians, turned into stone.

According to another legend, the existence of the stone figures is very different. There used to be a forest in this area, but due to wars it was burned down. Soon the area became a wasteland. The temperatures were very low and when the army passed through the wasteland, all of the soldiers turned into rocks.

Hello Krzysztof,
A fine view of these 'petrified' figures that form an interesting part of the landscape. The composition with the figures in the FG gives the landscape good depth.
Well done and thanks,
Ivan

Hello Krzys,
These stone figures are amazing and so are the legends! I think you can find similar shapes in the Dolomites. Very well captured in fine summer light and the colours are beautiful.
Many thanks and best wishes,Ulla

Oh oh...another day when I just got the papers from Xmas out...now we are going to fill up the room with Jane's geology books once more I can tell...A fine picture and notes to go with it...good images from the Holy Land...or at least a part which some consider consecrated in one way or another...Very nice!

Hello Krzysztof

These formations are unique and interesting.
Well focused and placed in the frame.
I love how the stories are created and passed down to explain them.
The blue sky makes a super back drop for this shot.

Witam!
Pozdrawiam,
Radek

PS. To co, zaczynasz myslec o Gruzji? ;>

Hi Krzysztof,
Nice showing these rock formation in close up. The surrounding also well seen. Also like your workshop. Happy New Year to you and your family. With all best wishes.
JC

Interesting legends about these geological formations, Chris.
You have documented them well in this pleasant landscape picture.
TFS and Happy New Year!

Hi Krzysztof,

Yes I've seen these before, but they are very intertesting formations. Easy to see how they became the stuff of legends.
Well composed and good light on this sunny day. A great landscape.
