[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Help with ID of this insect would be very welcome.My attempts at identifying it have all been unsuccessful. I did find a photograph of a similar specimen posted on TN but I was not convinced with that ID being a bald faced hornet. In fact, cross reference revealed the bald faced hornet to be quite different.
What I can say is that this species of 'hornet' is very active, rarely stopping on a flower for more than a few seconds. It was a good test for patience to manage a few good captures. I saw this species in late spring and early summer but it seemed to have already disappeared by late summer.
I apologise for the lack of exif data but this was all removed when I filtered the image with Neatimage [one of the reasons I dropped using the program]

I don't know the name of this insect but I know that you did a wondeful job here!!!This is a wondeful picture with very complimenting colors. The great bg enhances so well the picture too! The bee has a very unusual color! Great job and TFS,
