| The painted lady is a migrant butterfly that shows up in spring to grace our valleys with its beauty. it seems to prefare thistles and nettle. I took a few shots of this specimen late in the afternoon - this may be the reason why it did not flit off every time I approached it. |

Very nice. The colors come out perfect the image is bright and sharp and the composition is great.
Are you sure the Painted Lady is a migrant in your country ? I would have thought it breeds there and migrates north. Your picture interestingly shows it on thistle, which is the food plant of its caterpillar. Maybe it was egg-laying ?...
Hi Mark
A lovely shot. Good POV. Nicely saturated colours. Tack sharp with good clarity. Nice work. :-)
Hello Mark,
very pretty and perfectly focussed shot of Vanessa cardui,
in a very typical pose of visiting its "native" plant.
Beautiful light, showing the fine iridescent greenish colours against the base of wings very well.
A bit more saturation of colours and contrast added by postwork might be tried as that could further increase the impact of this crisp and clear picture. Also a little bit of cropping at the lower border and the right border might further increase the concentration on the butterfly.
I tried a little workshop to test my suggestions - please have a look, maybe you find it useful.
Yor picture is a very good "starter" - high quality contribution!
Thank you. Best regards,
Peter
Wow, your first butterfly photo is beautiful. I love the plant it's sitting on, it provides such texture and interesting shapes. The butterfly's colors really stand out well, clear, sharp with good light and focus, excellent work.
