[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
After a slight morning drizzle, I went to 'my' valley in search of insects, never expecting to see so many spiders! To say it all, I did not actually see this specimen,I was attracted to the daisey by the awkward angle of the fly and only after close inspection did I realize it had become the victim of this perfectly camouflaged spider. No idea at all about the spider's ID, help would be very much appreciated
Thanks
Mark

Hello Mark,
This a very well shot of the interesting scene. Colours and pov are great. This spider is a kind of a crab spider.
Cheers,
Ersin

Hi Mark,
The other name of this spider is flower spider. Very interesting to see such a scene.
Well presented.

Hello Mark,
very impressive shot of the crab spider Misumena vatia having overpowered a very large prey obviously within fractions of a second.
Very good demonstration of a predator's perfect camouflage.
Well focussed, well exposed, well composed contribution of high impact. Well done indeed.
Thank you! Best regards,
Peter

Mark:
I hate to correct anyone (particularly Peter!) but your crab spider is Thomisus onustus. The shape of the cephalothorax and the two angular protuberances on the abdomen and the "ridge" between them are pretty much conclusive. This species has incredible powers of mimicry - I'll post another shot of this species some time soon ;) Well spotted, and nicely captured :)
Nigel.
