[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
According to Wikipedia Enc. the Wall Brown - Lasiommata Megera - is of the order Lepidoptera; Superfamily Papilionoidae and Family Nymphalidae. Elsewhere [www.leps.it] I found the Family to be Satyridae.
Could anyone please verify which ID is correct?
Thanks
Mark

Hallo Mark,
yes ... it is Lasiommata megera. Family Nymphalidae, subfamily Satyrinae. This subfamily was earlier considered a family (Satyridae). Due to phylogenetic considerations ist was ranked down to a subfamily of the Nymphalidae. This procedure is also due to Danainae, Acraeinae etc.
Your picture is perfect concerning light, sharpness and composition. It shows a female of the species. Males have a brand of androconial scales on the forewings visible by broad dark stripe.

Very good shot of this SAtyridae!
Also common in Portugal.
Very good on colours and POV!
Very good DOF and details!
5* and TFS!

Mark,

Well composed and good detail and sharpness of the subject. The POV and Lighting are also great. TFS,
Sheriff

I guess butterflies are not easy to capture on camera; first of all, they keep flitting from one place to another and secondly, they rarely open their wings in rest position.
Your Wall Brown, however, seems to have obliged you, Mark. It is sitting perfectly still and it has open wings!
Lovely shot with an ideal POV, DOF and colours.
Well done and TFS.

Hello Mark,
Congratulations to an exellent macro of the Wall Brown captured in its typical, somewhat slanted pose. A very clear and nice shot doing full justice to its object. Thank you very much,
Goran
P.S. Peter put matters straight with taxonomy, just that the Suprafamily name should read -oidea, instead of -oidae

Bonjour Mark
C'est une excellent Prise de vue en macro de ce beau papillon! La composition très jolie avec de belles couleurs, ainsi que les détails. Merci pour le partage .
Au revoir et Bravo ....JP

Hello Mark,
perfect shot of this quick moving, shy species.
Some noise removal might be applied to the background, and further softening could make the BG slightly more distant. But all over, your shot is very sharp and clear, with enough depth of field to cover the whole wings of both sides in a perfect way. With thanks, and best regards,
Peter
