[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hi Friends,
In my last posting, I indicated that I now have the means to upload shots from my work location in Libya. This sparked quite a series of excited comments regarding the possibility of my photographing wildlife here [in Libya]. I really would like to fulfill such expectations but my work does not leave much time or scope to afford to one's past-times. Moreover, the place where I'm stationed is really very barren and does not support a lot of wildlife.
The shot I posted is one I took last summer. That day dawned uncharacteristically cloudy for July and in fact we had a brief but quite violent thunder storm in the early morning.
I set the camera on a tripod with a CP filter up front and used the remote shutter release. WB was set on cloudy and the camera's colour correction setting was put on 'warm'. This setting has the same effect of putting on a red filter. I used the narrowest aperture setting and underexposed by one stop.

you got some nice dawn lines on the rising sun going into the well lit canopy..the redness seems to suggest a sunset..infra red at night ..ultra violet in the morning..
its a good descending shot because of that

Hi Mark,

Lovely shot - very impressive sky and sunrays - nice balanced composition too.

Your use of tripod and narrow aperture suggest the shot should be pin sharp - perhaps the image lost a little sharpness in the post-processing, seems just a little soft to me.

But I love the colours you have achieved, really nice work.

Very nice landscape Mark with wonderful warm colors and excellent light effect.

I like it a lot: composition, POV, colors, DOF, focus, sharpness, lighting, reflex, framing.

The caption "Prelude" may aptly describe the indications of an impending storm, but the picture also comes out strongly as the serene end to a day in July, Mark. The effects you have achieved in this sunset picture through your camera settings are truly marvellous. I love the dispersal of sunrays across the semi-cloudy sky in the manner I used to paint the picture of sun in my childhood days :-)!
You know what? I have stowed away my camera here in Saudi Arabia; there is practically nothing to shoot by way of wild life. I understand your situation in Libya.
