[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Another reptile from Montenegro :)

This picture was taken in Skadar Lake National Park, one of 5 Montenegrian national parks.

It presents a young individual (about 35-40 cm) of Dice Snake - Natrix tesselata (Laurenti, 1768) (Colubridae: Natricinae) .

In Skadar Lake NP this species is rather common and easy to observe especially in the early evening. During this time many specimens are leaving water where they spent a day for hunting for small fish species and frogs, and they come back on the land to spend the night.

In place where this photo was taken every evening about 5-8 specimens were observed on the area of about 20-30 m.

The colour of N. tessellata is a little similar to Vipera berus, and beacuse of that it is sometimes mistaken with this poisonous reptile.

Hello Radomir,
Great shot of a Natrix species that I have never seen. The use of flash and focusing on the head made this a fine portrait of this snake, especially as you have the whole of the snake in the picture.

composition and light are superb. Particularly, I like the pebble background. The focus is exactly on the snake's face. A nice picture.

Another splendid raptile photo from you, my friend!
This N. tessellata here looks really great and you managed to capture it all is a frame, thanks to the great position you caught it in.
The focus is excellent and the details on the scales and eyes are outstanding! Lovely colors and light, too.
It's also very nice to hear that there is a strong and numerous population there :)
