Rarely observed in Belgium, mainly in the south, were in some places the species is locally common.
The larva lives in a tubular spinning in different species of mosses. It pupates in a cocoon in or near the roots.
The adults have been observed from late May till early July. They fly towards sunset. The males rest by day openly on the foliage in boggy places.

Olethreutes olivana(= Phiaris micana)
(Treitschke, 1830)
Wingspan c. 15 mm.
A widespread but locally distributed species over much of the British Isles, though generally more frequent further north.
The adults fly during July and August, frequenting damp and marshy habitats. The normal flight period is after dark, but the males especially can sometimes be flushed from grass in the daytime.
The early stages are not well documented in the British Isles, though on the continent the larvae are known to feed on mosses and herbaceous plants.
