[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Looking at the sky and the colors that appear without looking at the time of day, one can tell what will come.

This view is opposite from my previous photo and closer toward the setting sun, hence the coloration in the sky.

This time some information about the organisation behind the National Parks:

The partners in the National Parks are landowners ('Federatie Particulier Grondbezit': Federation for private landowners), site managers ('Staatsbosbeheer', the governmental organisation, managing the natural heritage in the Netherlands; 'Natuurmonumenten', the society for the preservation of nature in the Netherlands; provincial landscape trusts; municipalities; Ministry of Defence; private parties), various public bodies (national, provincial and local authorities, water boards, 'Rijkswaterstaat'), educational ('IVN', the organisation of nature and environmental education in the Netherlands) and recreational organisations ('ANWB', the royal Dutch touring club, regional recreation boards) and local businesses. Together, all these parties pursue a common mission: ‘to manage, protect and develop the park in a sustainable manner, to enable research and ensure public access.’ It is vital that the people who live in and around a National Park support the park and its objectives. The task of generating regional support is taken very seriously. More and more initiatives with private parties are coming off the ground and benefiting local economies.

Hi Niek,
a wonderful place, nothing is disturbing, so silent, so beautiful. To walk around there and enjoy that place must be relaxing after a hard week at work. Thanks and greetings

Hello Niek,

Great capture.
Wonderful colours with fantastic details.
Lighting and composition are splendid.
Good notes.

This is nice Niek, but not quite as exciting as your last post from the same area. I think because this image is more tall and thin the foreground loses some impact. I miss the wonderful shape and sharpness of the grasses in the other shot. Also this composition, being almost cut in half by the horizon line, makes it appear more static. I think I would crop out about one half of the sky. To my eye the image then comes alive, and is less skinny. It then "feels" like you had a lower point of view and my eye goes to the horizon line and then back to the grasses and then sweeps out to the wonderful frozen color and texture of the lake. In the original, my eye starts at the horizon line (contrast area) and then goes up to the sky and get kind of stuck there. Just scroll the image up and the impact of the grasses and the pond increases.... I think. : ) If, on the other hand, you wanted the sky to be the subject, you could have gotten physically lower to cut down on some of the expanse of the lake. That could have made the grasses and lake 1/3 and the sky 2/3. The image is technically very well managed and it is even straight and has no dust spots... which is more than I can say for some of mine!!!!! : )

I am looking forward to your argument. You are not easily swayed... which is as it should be. Defending one's position, I think is valuable as it helps one define more precisely just what one is trying to express through photography.

Hi Niek

I've read your discussion with Evelynn and you shouldn't worry about having almost 50 views and only 3 critiques. Some of those views were me but looking at this photo from my folks' place and now that i'm back home i finally had time to critique on it :)
To further complicate the debate between you and Ev., i personally like this one better than the previous shot :)
I'm not that much bothered by the almost centered horizon and i do think that the very beautiful sky shouldn't be cropped. The shapes and displacement of the clouds and the refined graduation of color and light in it deserves all that attention.
On the other hand, Evelynn might make a good point about lowering your POV and cutting down some of the lake...but then it wouldn't look so vast...i'm not sure...
Either way, the FG frozen plants are terrific and shown with excellent sharpness to their detail - i particularly like the star-shaped one at about 1/3 from the left, right above the lower border.
Also, the silhouette of the trees over the horizon are exceptional and i think add a lot to the perspective of the scene - they show exactly how far the lake goes.
All-in-all: another lovely presentation.
I'm eagerly waiting to see if you stayed more to catch the sun go down :)

Cheers and TFS
Horia

Niek, what a superb landscape shot. Well shot with perfect clarity Ganesh

Hallo Niek,
