Today also an very common fungi in Europe.

Latin name - Hypholoma fasciculare

Pileus
Cap 2-7 cm broad, convex, expanding to nearly plane in age, sometimes with a broad low umbo; margin incurved when young, wavy if clustered, often slightly appendiculate with veil fragments; surface smooth, moist, disc yellow-orange to tawny-orange, shading to a lighter margin, overlapped caps often patchy purple-brown from shed spores; flesh pale yellow, thin; odor not distinctive; taste bitter.

Lamellae
Gills adnate, crowded, narrow, yellow becoming sulphur-green, in age dingy, olive-brown from maturing spores.

Stipe
Stipe 2-9 cm tall, 0.4-1.5 cm thick, equal or tapering downward, hollow, often twisted, pale yellow with brown fibrils, bruising brown on handling; partial veil evanescent, usually leaving sparse fragments on the cap margin but sometimes forming a superior fibrillose annular zone.

Spores
Spores 6.5-8 x 3.5-4.5 µm, elliptical, smooth, with an apical pore; spore print purple-brown.

Habitat
Gregarious to clustered on hardwood/conifer logs or stumps, sometimes in grass from buried wood; fruiting from late fall to mid-winter.

Edibility
Poisonous. Opinion is divided on the toxicity of this species, but since it is extremely bitter, the question is purely academic.

Hello Gert,
We are neighbours again!
This portrait of this bitter fungus is superb. The sharpness and lighting are faultless and the composition on the mossy-covery stump excellent. I perfect illustration of H. fasciculare for book on fungi!
Well done and thanks for sharing this fine image,
Regards, Ivan

Hallo Gert
I do not have much knowledge about fungi and because of that I prefer not to give my comments on these kinds of postings. I can however not let this beauty pass without adding my little comment for what it is worth. A well composed image with good and clear details. The scenery reminds me of the underground world we see in the animation movies where the elfs and dwarfs live. The colour and details of your background emphasise the beauty this fungi tower even more. This is almost and excotic image. Thanks for sharing and enjoy your day.
Kind regards.
Anna

Hi Big Bro Gert,
Good Morning! Another masterpiece of your excellent photographic accumulation. Great shot and wonderful composition of this poisonous mushroom in all around.
Many thanks for sharing this poisonous beauty.
Have a nice day!
Cheers,

Bayram

Merhaba Gert,
You've captured a textbook presentation of a fine looking group of sulphur tufts on a decaying tree stump my friend. Your exposure and focusing are perfect and the soft illumination provided by the diffused lights of a cloudy sky really made this a beautiful composition. Thank you for sharing this fine piece of nature.
Cheers,
Mehmet

Hello Gert,

There is a very fine light that you have captured in your photo. The colors of the fungi matches well with the wood they are staying on. Green moss in foreground makes a nice contrast and bring life to the image.

Thank you for sharing,
Cristian

Hello Gert, this is a beautiful picture of these fun fungi! They always remind me of schtroumph land. The colours are natural and bright and the details and sharpness superb. Thank you!

Francine

This is true "art in nature" Gert...It is both identified well and imaged well but then it is presented in a most eye pleasing way. the colours attract each other...the whole thing is a very nice work.

Merhaba Gert,
Tıpkı masallardaki o kuçuk yaratıkların yaşadıkları evleri andıran enfes bir kare.
Rekler ve kompozisyon muhteşem olmuş.
Eline sağlık.

Hello Gert,

Beautuful photo of this mushroom.
Lighting and composition are fantastic.
Good sharpness and detail.
I like the notes.

Simply beautiful Gert.
Great exposure and composition.
I think your camera needed to be slightly higher to avoid the OOF moss in the foreground obscuring the lower fungi.
Stillan excellent piece of work though.
Great stuff!
Steve
