Today a fungi that I been posted an view weeks ago but this are with different light and with an surprise for me.
You can see an the Mycena how small they are trough the fly.

Some of the most beautiful and elegant mushrooms on earth, in my opinion, are included in the genus Mycena. They are extremely small mushrooms, rarely exceeding a few centimeters in diameter and often only reaching diameters of a few millimeters. They are frequently overlooked, unless they happen to be growing in large clusters. But for those who are willing to slow down and appreciate the beauty of small things, they can be quite stunning.

The tell-tale characteristics of the genus include a white spore print, a small conical or bell-shaped cap, and a thin stem that is not tough or wiry. A few species, like Mycena leaiana, are brightly colored, but most are gray or brown.

The tell-tale characteristics of the genus include a white spore print, a small conical or bell-shaped cap, and a thin stem that is not tough or wiry. A few species, like Mycena leaiana, are brightly colored, but most are gray or brown.

Alexander Smith's 1947 monograph of Mycena (online here) contains 232 species, and the number has only increased since. A great deal of emphasis in Mycena taxonomy is placed on microscopic features like cystidia (specialized sterile cells in the gills). Thus most of us have little chance of successfully identifying more than ten or twenty species.

The mushrooms in Mycena are too small to be considered for the table; most species would have to be collected in such great quantities that the endeavor would be ridiculous. Edibility is not known for most of the species, a few are suspected to contain toxins, and the ones that are officially "edible" are not at all easy to identify with certainty

Hi Gert,

What really surprises e about this image is that the fly was still for a whole second exposure! I really like the light on the fungus against that dark background. The off center placement of the subject is effective.

Good Morning gert!
We both get up early to make our postings and now we are neighbours again.
Fine portrait of a Mycaenid nicely taken against a dark BG in the ambient light with fine sharpness in the mossy substrate. I like the composition and the flesh fly on it is a bonus!
TFS this fine image,
Kind regards,
Ivan

It is very kind of you to look at my recent picture and write your critique on it, Gert.
I notice from your gallery that you are a fungi man, essentially.
This capture of Mycena species is excellent in every respect. I am impressed with the way you compose your images of these wonders of nature.
Thanks and regards,
Ram

hello Gert,
You made a most beautiful series of fungis, the pictures are all very artistically made. On this picture, the little plus is the fly, which gives a special touch to the presentation. I also like a lot the fine light and the generous, decentred composition.
Very beautiful shot
Thanks

Hi Gert,

I can't believe you caught a fly on the Mycena! Either great timing or great luck but whichever one it's wonderful. I'm afraid the fly stole the show from the pretty fungus. Beautiful colors and setting and a fine composition. I like the black background.

Hallo Gert,
Prachtige opname in mooi licht. Het contrast tegen de donkere achtergrond is schitterend. Mooi dat die vlieg een volle seconde bleef zitten. Uitstekende scherpte.
Goed weekend,
Peter

A very pleasing image of Mycena and Fly Gert.
Nicely composed, good detail and natural colour.
Nice work.
Cheers
Steve

Hi Gert,

At this very moment, if someone clicks only the first page of Your photos, doesn't know You photograph fungi at all. :) But we of course know You not only photograph them, but You do it on very high quality. Like this one: everything (in focus) is razor-sharp, very clever off-centered composition, absolutely excellent natural colors and wonderfully blurred background. It's time to mark this shot with a little green star. :)

I myself also like this genera very much. A lot of Mycena species are growing in bunch, with stems united at the base, and they're very photogenic by my opinion. I truly hope to capture some with a DSLR once.

Thanks for this wonderful pic, respectful regards from Hungary, László
