Herring Gull Larus argentatus portrait
Quite difficult to get a good exposure on the white parts.
In this portrait I opted for a lighter exposure with just a few details left in the white. Opinions welcome! |

Hi Tom,
I like this kind of close ups of gulls. MAny people would say: ah, just another gull. Your image shows the great details like the red eye ring and the red spot (never heard if this has a fumction).
I took the image to photoshop and reduced exposure. I think due to the absence of structure in the white parts in this image, I prefer the somewhat underexposed. In order to prevent a totally underexposed image, I would just reduce exposure on the white parts with a mask.
Regards, JAcob

Hi Tom
I think you have managed the exposure extremely well - you are right it is often difficult to get this right. The focus is spot-on and the colours really good - especially the beak.
